A rare visitor from North America got birdwatchers in a flap recently.

Reports were received that a ring-billed gull had been seen with common gulls from the B834, 1.5 miles west of Killearn near the Blane Water on Sunday, January 26.

However, the Clyde Birds website said it flew off and was not seen again.

Ring-billed gulls are common in North America, but are rare vagrants to Scotland, with a handful of records ever year.
