CAMPAIGNERS for an independent Scotland have organised a series of major meetings in the area for the public to attend.

People will be able to have an informal chat and find out information about the Yes Campaign on Saturday, March 16 in the Fraser Centre, Milngavie from 2pm to 4pm. The events were organised by Yes East Dunbartonshire volunteers and guest speakers in Milngavie will include Dr Willie Wilson Pharmacologist and local businessman, Dr Sonya Scot, an expert on welfare issues and Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp.

A spokesperson said: “Whether you think you will vote yes or no or don’t know everyone is welcome to come along for a cuppa and chat.

“Need answers - why Independence? We would hope to help with unbiased, independent information and facts.

“If we don’t know, we will work with you to find the answers.

“No party politics, no vox pops, no loud hailers, just ordinary folk having a cuppa with friends around the table, listening, deliberating and gaining understanding from each other.”

The inaugural meeting of the Bearsden Yes Campaign is being held in Bearsden Burgh Hall on Wednesday, March 20 at 8pm.

The speakers are Milngavie MSP Gil Paterson, Natalie McGarry from Women for Independence, Ross Greer of the Scottish Green Party and Bill Newman, a retired London banker.

A further meeting of Bearsden Yes is being held in Westerton Guide Hall on Saturday, March 23 from 11am until 1pm.

A spokesperson added: “Members of the public are invited to come along to either or all of the meetings to get answers to their questions on an independent Scotland and enjoy a lively debate.”
