Police probe danger drugs
Strathclyde Police is issuing a drugs warning to the public, after nine people were admitted to hospital on Saturday.
It’s believed they may have become seriously ill after taking drugs in Glasgow City Centre.
Between 1am and 4am hours on November 10, eight people were admitted to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and one person to the Western Infirmary with symptoms including high fever, agitation and seizures.
It is believed they had taken a combination of tablets and powder.
Seven men and two women aged from 17 to 22 years were treated.
Police say it is unusual and “concerning” to have so many people admitted to hospital over such a short period of time with similar symptoms.
Superintendent Kirk Kinnell of Strathclyde Police said: “We believe they may have taken dangerous tablets or powder.
“We are taking this matter extremely seriously and are currently carrying out extensive enquiries to establish where these drugs have come from. Searches are being carried out at a number of venues in connection with this inquiry.
He added that police cover will be beefed up around night clubs in the city, saying: “Additional patrols are being deployed in the city centre and officers will be speaking to club and door staff to offer advice and to gather as much information as possible that could assist our inquiry.
“We will do everything in our power to arrest those who are concerned in the supply of these illegal drugs.”
