Conti holds court in compelling thriller

FOR theatre buffs looking for a show that’s strictly adult, the Theatre Royal may hold the answer this week.

The city centre venue welcomes a tour of Rough Justice, a suspense thriller starring stage and screen legend Tom Conti.

Penned by Terence Frisby, this play is a far cry from the writer’s previous hit comedy, There’s a Girl in My Soup.

Here, Conti plays a notable television journalist, James Highwood, who has made a career out of challenging the British justice system.

The tables are turned when Highwood is charged with murder — specifically, the murder of his own disabled child — and he chooses to defend his actions, despite admitting the killing.

Audiences can expect gripping courtroom action as the protagonist sets out to incense the very judge standing over him — and with multiple twists and turns it could have you guessing until the very end.

n Rough Justice runs at the Theatre Royal from Wednesday (August 29-September 1). Performance at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on Thurs and Sat. Tickets cost £12-£32, from 0844 871 7647.
