Children in Bearsden are in for a summer of fun and entertainment - all thanks to a new revamped playground in Whitehurst Park.
The new community facility has been upgraded as part of East Dunbartonshire Council’s five-year Capital Play Programme which allocates money to projects that will enhance the local community feel in-line with its Open Space Strategy.
The park was officially opened by Councillor Ashay Ghai and has a wide range of play equipment for children of all ages including multi-swings, slides and climbing frames.
Councillor Ghai, depute leader of the council and convener of Neighbourhood Services, said: “I am delighted to open this fantastic play area which I am sure is going to be a much-welcomed amenity for local children and families. And it couldn’t be a better time of year to do this, with summer just beginning. All we need now is some great weather to allow local children to make the most of this fantastic new play park.”
Local children from Castlehill Primary School were consulted about the type of play equipment that should be provided.
Castlehill head teacher Suzanne Kenney said: “The children really enjoyed being consulted about the development of the playpark. It’s great to see how some of their ideas have shaped the final design.”
