THE opening of a new specialist care home suite in Bearsden has been marked with the presentation of a cheque for almost £20,000.

Mugdock House on Stockiemuir Road is due to open in early January 2013, but a marketing suite has now opened, which allows people the opportunity to discuss possible care plans for older people or those with dementia.

The opening coincided with the presentation of a cheque for £19,863 to Alzheimer Scotland, a sum which was raised by staff, residents and relatives from Bupa’s care homes across Scotland.

They took part in a Memory Walk in Mugdock Country Park on September 16 and cash raised was then doubled by a matched contribution from Bupa, who will run the care home.

Alzheimer Scotland’s Joyce Gray said: “I am delighted to be officially opening the marketing suite for this brand new care home in Bearsden.

“The support we have received from Bupa Care Services to date has been extraordinary and we are so glad to have established links with yet another local Bupa home.”

Bupa’s director of Scotland, Kenny Valentine, said: “This was a fantastic day on two counts. Firstly to be here for the opening of our marketing suite which marks the final phase before the opening of Mugdock House in January 2013 and secondly to be able to present Alzheimer Scotland with a fantastic sum of money raised by Bupa colleagues, residents and relatives.”

Bearsden Primary School pupils who took part in a groundbreaking ceremony back in November 2011 were invited to attend the marketing suite opening and are working on a project to decide the name of the two suites within the home.
