Neil snaps up wildlife award

AN amateur wildlife photographer has won two awards in a prestigious national competition and come third in another one.
Neil MacGregor from Bearsden entered a number of his photographs and won in the two most popular categories - Landscape and the Public Choice with his images of a winter reflection on water and a squirrel on a log in winter. His third place was in the Scottish Wildlife category with a beautiful image called Splash Happy.
The landscape prize was a trip to the Orkney Isles, a year’s membership of the Scottish Seabird Centre and a photography trip to the world-famous Bass Rock. For winning the People’s Choice, Neil picked up a £50 voucher for Wildlife Watching Supplies.
The competition, now in its sixth year, was hosted by the Scottish Seabird Centre in East Lothian.
Neil (59), and a member of Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club, said: “I enjoy landscape and nature photography and when I saw details of the Seabird Centre’s Nature Photography Awards I was keen to try my luck and entered the competition.
“I was delighted initially to learn that I had reached the shortlisted round of the competition and even more amazed to have been recognised by two of the country’s top photographers, Laurie Campbell and Graham Riddell, and also the public vote to win two of the categories.
“Many thanks to the Scottish Seabird Centre for organising the event and also to the general public who voted for my images.”
The winning images were 50 per cent judges’ vote and 50 per cent public vote, with the shortlist of 105 pictures on display at the Seabird Centre’s Environment Zone from mid-November last year.
Tom Brock OBE, chief executive of the Scottish Seabird Centre, said: “Every year we are impressed by the level of talent among amateur photographers. I would like to thank everyone who entered and to congratulate all those who made it to the shortlist and our winners. The exhibition has been a huge success with over 500 people voting for their favourite.”
