A dog which was taken during a car theft in Milngavie has been found safe and well in Bishopbriggs.

Murphy, a black cockapoo, was in his owner’s Volkswagen Scirocco when it was stolen from outside the Virgin Active Gym on Strathblane Road on Tuesday.

His owner and immediate family had been searching the area through the night and into Wednesday.

Members of the volunteer group Help2Rehome Scotland were also involved.

The nine-year-old dog was found early on Thursday morning tied to a pole near to Auchinairn Roundabout in Bishopbriggs — about seven miles away.

Murphy’s owners have thanked those volunteers who helped with the search along with local police and members of the public.

The car — registration plate SL14 YPR — has yet to be recovered.

Police have re-appealed for information on the theftwhich happened at around 5pm on Tuesday.
