A MILNGAVIE couple with a young family were overjoyed after scooping a cool £137,000 after winning a TV game show.

Jane and Scott Couper took part in ITV1’s new game show The Exit List in London, which was shown on Tuesday.

Scott (42), an accounts manager for a medical imaging company, said: “This is life changing and was beyond our wildest expectations. We are not going to do anything flash with the money as we have three very young kids. You are not going to see us flying about Milngavie on a Segway. I think we are going to buy a new house in Milngavie.”

The one luxury the family the allowed themselves is a trip to Disney World Florida in July.

Jane, who has just come off maternity leave, is planning to retrain as a yoga bugs teacher. Previously she worked for the NHS’s breast-feeding support section.

The couple have three young boys Brodie (5), Jack (3) and Sam (7 months) and had a bit of a problem finding childcare when they were unexpectedly called down to London at 24 hours notice to record the programme at the end of November.

Scott, who played American Football for the Scottish Claymores, added: “It was my wife who entered the competition on a whim. She was bored and downloaded an application form from the internet. We then went for a meet and greet interview in Newcastle. We were told we were on the reserve list in October and just thought nothing else about it.”

But in November they got a call from the programme makers asked them if they could fly down to London the next day.

Scott said: “It was hectic getting childcare. We flew down to London at 6am the next day and it was unbelievably stressful with a live audience even though the programme was pre-recorded.

“We were just thinking we might get a few grand which would be nice for a holiday. We haven’t had one since January last year.”

The couple, who have lived in Milngavie for the past five years, met the presenter of the show Matt Allwright - better know as a presenter from Rogue Traders, Watchdog and as the One Show’s consumer advice reporter - and had to descend into a giant 26 room maze.

Every room contained an amount of cash, but one room, deep in the maze, held £100,000. The trouble was the further the couple went in, the harder it was to get out – because to escape with the money, they had to remember the The Exit List.
