Invitation to hop aboard Tesco bus
ELDERLY people are being encouraged to use a bus service, which is being provided by East Dunbartonshire Council, to take them to Tesco in Milngavie.
The bus picks people up every Tuesday morning from their homes in Bearsden or Milngavie between 10am and 11am and takes them to the supermarket to allow them to do their shopping and have a cuppa afterwards in the cafe.
Driver Jo McErlane said: “We’ve been running this service for about two years but recently our numbers have been dropping so we’d like new people to use it. We have really good banter on the bus, we all get to know each other by first names.
“It gets older people out of the house for a few hours, even during bad weather when they may otherwise be trapped at home.
“People are taken home at about midday but we are flexible about times.
“Anyone is welcome to come along - and we are sure they will enjoy it!”
Up to 14 people can be transported and it is for anyone over 60 years old or on benefits.
