Information point to mark the West Highland Way's 30th birthday
THE launch of a new visitor information point in Milngavie tomorrow (Saturday) marks the 30th anniversary of the West Highland Way.
A previously vacant store in the precinct has been converted by East Dunbartonshire Council's development and infrastructure service and will run in partnership with the private sector led by East Dunbartonshire tourism partnership and the tenant of the new property, Frontier Holidays Limited.
Councillor John Dempsey, vice convener of the development committee, said: "East Dunbartonshire has a superb range of walks and attractions set in some of the central belt's most stunning scenery.
"The council is delighted to be able to provide this facility and looks forward to working with its private sector partners in delivering key tourism development objectives for the area."
Visitors and locals will now be able to access an array of information and advice on the East Dunbartonshire's extensive range of walks, attractions and tourist services.
The centre will also offer additional services to those wishing to walk locally and do the West Highland Way including a range of specialised active holiday packages, and will bring to the town centre extensive walking knowledge and expertise.
The new information point will help to strengthen Milngavie's position as a visitor gateway to East Dunbartonshire's great outdoors and beyond.
A special opening event is going to be held at 11am in Milngavie Precinct to celebrate this exciting development and the 30th anniversary of the West Highland Way.
