Help to raise cash for Comic Relief by baking a cake for a Bake-Off in Milngavie

HELPING charity is a piece of cake – quite literally – for a sweet-hearted Bearsden dad.

Simon Foy has organised a ‘Great Bearsden Bake Off’ in a bid to raise dough for Comic Relief.

Interest in home-baking has risen thanks to the success of TV show ‘The Great British Bake Off’.

Simon (40), a business development manager at Milngavie and Bearsden Sports Club, has been inspired to hold a charity bake off and tea room this Sunday (February 24) at the sports club, on Auchenhowie Road.

The Bearsden dad has had lots of practise as he regularly makes fairy cakes and cup cakes with his four-year-old-daughter Yasmin (pictured above – Ref: M30243b).

Simon said: “Everyone loves ‘The Great British Bake Off’ – it crosses all genres and ages.

“A few years ago people who liked baking wouldn’t always admit it, but now it’s become quite cool.

“Girls like a guy who can bake for them.”

People are being asked to donate home-baked cakes (£2 entry, not per cake) before noon, which will later be sold in the tea room upstairs on the day. Any cake – or lots of little cakes – can be entered into the bake off competition, apart from puddings, crumbles or biscuits.

They will be judged by a panel, including Gilbert McVean from The Iron Chef in Milngavie.

Judging is between noon and 1pm, and the tearoom is open until 4pm. There are prizes to be won for the best entries. For more information go to mandbsportsclub.com

Funds raised will go to Comic Relief.
