A DEVOTED dad is going to raise funds for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital by doing a 16-hour spin at LA Fitness in Milngavie today (Thursday).

Stewart Mullen (32) has three children aged 12, eight and five and two of them suffer from a condition which has needed onging treatment at Yorkhill.

Stewart, who works at the health and fitness centre as a spin instructor and receptionist, will be cycling non-stop from 6am to 10pm, he will also run his classes throughout the day as well.

And managers at the private gym have offered to give people a free day pass if they want to join his spin class or just drop in to sponsor him.

His wife Dawn (32) said: “We’ve had a great deal of help from Yorkhill over the years so Stewart wanted to give something back to them.

“Lots of children aren’t allowed to go home at Christmas because they are too ill so we hope this cash can buy toys and games for them to brighten their day a bit.

“It must be a bit miserable to be sick over the festive period and not to be able to spend it with their family so we hope we can do something to cheer them up.”

Stewart added: “The longest I’ve managed to cycle consecutively in the past is three hours.

“I’m a bit nervous about the challenge but I’m also looking forward to it.

“Yorkhill Hospital is great. The staff are fabulous, they make the kids so relaxed and comfortable.

“We are lucky that our children only need to pay short visits and we can spend Christmas together as a family.

“That’s when we realised that some children aren’t as fortunate and I wanted to help them.

“I’d also like to thank LA Fitness for their support, they have been so positive about me doing this.”

If you want to take part in Stewart’s spin class call LA Fitness on 0141 956 6777 to book.
