A BEARSDEN family are celebrating being reunited with their much-loved family pet after he went missing for three days and nights in woods.
Two-year-old Bailey, a vanilla coloured cockerpoo, a cross between a cocker spaniel and poodle, ran away after being scared by two large German shepherds while he was out with his dog walker in Lennox Woods, Lennoxtown, on Friday, January 27 at about 3pm.
His owners, Mairi and Scott Braidwood and their four children Gemma (16), Mark (14), Leyla (11) and Lisa (9) spent the whole weekend looking for him in the woods and paths nearby.
After a possible sighting of him in Lennoxtown last Monday afternoon on a path leading to Blanefield, the family posted flyers through people’s doors and on lamp posts with Bailey’s picture, their contact details and many people were moved by their plight and helped to search the area last Monday.
He was eventually found at about 5.45pm on Monday night in Lennoxtown in the grounds of a nunnery a few miles from where he had run off the previous Friday.
Mairi (48) of Boclair Road, said: “This had a big impact on our family - the children were very distraught.
“We are thrilled to have him back, I’m ecstatic today, and we’d like to thank everyone who helped us to find him.
“I have been pleasantly surprised by how caring and helpful people can be - so many people wanted to look for him.
“I can’t believe that a dog his size went missing. He is quite unusual and very cute so we were worried that someone may have wanted to steal him. We are all very attached to him and missed him terribly.”
The man who eventually tracked him down was standing at a bus stop in Lennoxtown reading one of the flyers that the family had put up when, incredibly, Bailey happened to walk past him.
He chased after him and kept him in sight until the Braidwoods arrived - then Gemma called him and he came to her.
Mrs Braidwood added; “When we got him back he was fine apart from being a bit sleepy and hungry.
“He needed a good shampoo as well!”
The family also have a black cockerpoo called Buddi.

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 10:52 PMI'm glad the family has its dog back - we got a poster through the door and kept an eye out for a few days. What would be really nice is if the family came back to Lennoxtown and took down the posters on the lampposts, along with the sellotape being used to hold them up.
