CHILDREN’S author Julia Donaldson has hit out at Scotland’s new school curriculum, claiming bureaucratic jargon is preventing teachers doing their job properly.
The woman behind the popular Gruffalo books, who lives in Bearsden, thinks that while the aims of the Curriculum for Excellence are positive, the guidelines teachers are given are too stringent.
Donaldson, a former secondary school teacher, was reported as saying: “It is good we have these criteria and they are really good aims for schools, but teachers should be freer to get on with it.
“I feel sorry for teachers having to toe the line and tick the boxes because my impression of those I have met is almost universally they are doing a great job.”
