Flagship care home to open in Bearsden
Mugdock House Care Home
BUPA’S flagship care home in Bearsden, Mugdock House Care Home, for frail elderly folk and dementia sufferers, opens its doors in February.
Forming part of a larger development on Stockiemuir Road which includes residential housing and Bearsden Academy, the £7 million home will provide specialist care for up to 64 residents with general nursing needs and those living with dementia.
Specific features designed to make life easier and more comfortable for people with dementia include reminiscence activity areas, secure sensory gardens and memory triggers to aid connections with the past.
In addition, Mugdock House has its own hair salon, therapy room and cinema, plus private dining rooms and overnight accommodation for relatives wishing to stay close to their loved ones.
Home manager, Lorraine Murray, said: “It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to get to where we are now and we are looking forward to welcoming our first residents. This state of the art home is going to look fantastic when complete and there is no doubt that the special facilities and care we will offer will match this.”
The new home has created more than 90 new jobs for the local area, adding to the 3,300 care staff already employed by Bupa in Scotland alone.
Kenny Valentine, Bupa’s director Scotland, said: “We have completed the recruitment process and we have a dedicated team of experienced, compassionate and caring staff in place. A highly skilled home manager has been appointed
who has worked with Bupa Care Services for over five years and has managed other Bupa care homes in the Glasgow area.
“Lorraine has been working extremely hard to ensure Mugdock House will offer the best care possible. All staff have undergone an extensive training programme over the past two months which has allowed them to bond as a group and settle into their roles.
“We already have residents eager to move in and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say I am very much looking forward to opening the doors next month.”
