A varied range of work by members of the Glasgow Group of artists will be on show at the Lillie Art Gallery from this Saturday (January 11) until February 20.

Work by Ian Cook, Shona Dougall, Graham Govan, Damian Henry, Susan Kennedy, Peter Kleboe, Jo Linley, Claire Paterson, Phillip Reeves, Gregor Smith will be included as well as invited artists, the three founders of the group - Alasdair Gray, Anda Paterson, James Spence, and more recent former member David Smith.

This will be the 55th year of the Glasgow Group as an exhibiting body and the show in the Lillie will be as

diverse today as it was in the early days of the group.

The ten members of the group at present all have differing approaches to their art and each artist is nominated and selected for the excellence of their work.

The focus of the group is on quality and not on any style or movement and they do not represent a homogeneous whole either as people or artists. Although in the past the late Ken Palmer was said to have overheard that the group had been described as ‘that group of men with baldy heads and beards’ that’s no longer true as the characters and ages of the group are now as diverse as the work.

The Lillie Art Gallery is on Station Road, Milngavie, for more information call them on 0141 956 5536.

There is a car park and disabled access as well as a shop and toilets for visitors.
