IT may be tempting during this cold weather to leave your car unattended with the engine running to defrost the windscreen - but you are giving thieves an ideal opportunity.
Police are reminding drivers not to leave their vehicles with the key in the ignition during the frosty weather as your insurance company will not pay out if it is stolen in this way.
Car thieves get up early on cold mornings specifically to search for such opportunities.
Despite this - many motorists still ignore the advice given by the police.
Constable Siobhan McCandlish from Kirkintilloch police office, community safety department, said: “With the cold weather making an early appearance this year we’d like to remind motorists about the risks of leaving their car running to defrost whilst unattended.
“This makes your vehicle an easy target and it is not only expensive cars that are targeted, so do not take a chance.”
