Some ‘relay’ exciting events have been planned for this weekend when the Queen’s Commonwealth Games Baton travels through the area.
The baton’s first stop is at Bearsden Academy on Stockiemuir Road this Saturday (July 19) - it will then visit the Roman Baths on Roman Road and Allander Leisure Centre on Milngavie Road - where there will be free come and try activities from 10am to 1.30pm, including badminton, squash, table tennis, bowling and swimming - with all equipment supplied.
Then it travels to Milngavie precinct - where there will be a variety of activites including a Rotary duck race in the Allander Water, street bands and other entertainment, including a magician and face painting. There will also be a climbing wall in Lennox Park and a BMX bowl. The baton then stops off at The Lillie Art Gallery in Station Road, where there’s a special exhibition of Namibian art, before it arrives at Milngavie and Bearsden Sports Club on Auchenhowie Road, where there is a ‘Hands on the Baton’ event from 10am-2pm and lots of ‘try-it’ activities, including tennis, archery, hockey, shinty, football, judo and cycling.
East Dunbartonshire Council has produced a commemorative leaflet and A3 map with the best places to see the baton up close.
