Digging in for £9m care home

WORK has begun on a £9million flagship care home in Bearsden.

Owners Meallmore say they expect the building to be one of Scotland’s finest.

Work got underway on Monday to begin the construction of the Antonine House Care Home on Roman Road, a purpose built 82-bed facility providing care for people with general nursing needs, including those with dementia and its related conditions.

Set to be completed in December, the state-of-the-art complex will create 120 posts for nurses, care assistants, hotel services staff, administrators and managers.

Meallmore said that rooms within the luxury home will far exceed national care standards and residents will have access to a wide range of leisure activities.

Residents can also expect a fine dining experience in their luxury restaurant.

The design of the building has already received praise from planners as blending contemporary features in a traditional form that works well with the surrounding neighbourhood.

Gerry Hennessey, managing director of Meallmore, said: “It is exciting to see this project come to fruition. We have spent a long time designing the home so that our residents have the best facilities available.

“We have learned through our experience of operating other care homes over the last 25 years that it is the attention to detail that makes the difference.

“The aim is to make the home as comfortable as possible and to give residents as much independence as they want.”

Meallmore now has 19 homes for elderly and frail people in Scotland.
