PROVOST Eric Gotts and East Dunbartonshire Council’s Civic Committee welcomed John Kerr from Help the Heroes to the authority’s Tom Johnston House HQ to receive a cheque for £1,000.

The provost has long been a champion of the charity because of the “difficult job the British troops do at home and abroad.”

Money was raised through various events by council staff such as a Hallowe’en party and also by naming one of the ‘Hero Teddies’.

There was also a gift of a Hero Teddy to Dale Kerr, one of the receptionists based at Tom Johnston House for her help in raising some of the money.

Provost Gotts said: “I am delighted that the staff throughout the council supported this worthwhile charity. It is important that we show our support to the British troops as they continue to put their lives on the line under some very stressful and difficult circumstances.”
