Council calls for Hills to be protected
EAST Dunbartonshire Council has raised concerns about the future of the Kilpatrick Hills with Stirling Council.
Councillors agreed to urge Stirling Council to re-think part of its Local Development Plan (LDP) at a recent development and infrastructure committee meeting.
The council is concerned about the lack of status being given to the Kilpatrick Hills, which are visible from parts of Milngavie, Bearsden and surrounding areas, and believes that they should be included in the Southern Hills Local Landscape Area to ensure they are protected from unsuitable development.
Councillor Alan Moir, convener of the council’s development and infrastructure committee, said: “East Dunbartonshire and Stirling Councils share many common goals in our Local Development Plans.
“We welcome the bulk of what is contained in their draft and in particular protecting greenbelt and strengthening the Central Scotland Green Network.
“However, we would like to see more emphasis on protection of the Kilpatrick Hills.
“They are of immense value to both local authorities and I’m sure our views will be considered seriously.”
