Cops day of action to crackdown on speeding motorists in East Dunbartonshire
MILNGAVIE police will be out in force next Wednesday for a day of action targeting speeding and inappropriate driving.
This area of the district has a network of both main and rural roads that are well known accident blackspots and surveys reveal that 70 percent of motoring deaths happen on rural roads.
Research also shows that motorists are four times more likely to crash if they are driving whilst using a handheld mobile phone.
Cops aim to raise public awareness of the dangers and risks associated with speeding and aim to detect and deter road traffic crimes whilst educating the public in terms of road safety in an effort to keep people safe.
Chief Inspector Roddy Irvine, Local Area Commander, said: “People within East Dunbartonshire tell us that road safety continues to be a priority for them, especially around schools.
“This day of action will assist our ongoing efforts to keep people safe on East Dunbartonshire’s roads. If people are going for a night out where they might have a drink then I would urge them to plan ahead and leave the car at home.”
And he offered some helpful tips, adding, “Drivers should be aware of road conditions, be aware of their speed, then drive within speed limits and as conditions dictate. Additionally, I would ask people to be especially careful when close to schools whether driving or parking.”
