A PRESTIGIOUS national award was presented to an East Dunbartonshire council employee recently.

Jillian Faulkner scooped the national learning ‘Coach of the Year’ award at the Society of Personnel and Development Scotland’s annual conference in St Andrew’s last month.

She recived it for the role she played when she was seconded to the project team which supported the development and planned opening of Kirkintilloch Community Hub in May this year.

Her job involved helping ten new customer service agents to achieve their customer service professional qualification in just six weeks.

With support from the council’s people development team, she acted as a learning coach to ensure that they all gained their Level 1 qualification.

Jillian, who has now returned to her regular job in the council’s 24 hour Emergency Response Centre, said: “It was fantastic to be awarded this and lovely to be able to show my award to Councillors last night. Good service is so important when dealing with our customers and I am delighted that the new team at the Hub is doing so well and delivering a great service to our customers.”

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie, convener policy and resources committee, said: “Good customer service is an important aspect of our service delivery, particularly in our new Community Hub and councillors were delighted to hear of Jillian’s national recognition for the great job she did in supporting the Hub team.”

The customer service professional qualification was introduced in 2009 and since then 42 employees from a wide range of services have successfully completed Level 1 of the award with a further 29 employees in the final stages of their studies.

Councillor Billy Hendry in his capacity as COSLA Spokesperson for Strategic Human Resource Management presented Jillian with her accolade, he is here at the awards ceremony (far left) with Diane Campbell, council leader Rhondda Gheekie, Ann Davie, Jillian Faulkner, Hayley Manson, Ceri Paterson, Gerry Cornes chief executive of East Dunbartonshire Council and Steven McNab (HR manager, Renfrewshire Council).
