Callous cold callers will be given the cold shoulder thanks to a new campaign to beat doorstep crime, which has been launched this week.
Police Scotland and Trading Standards officers will be working together with other partners, including Ceartas advocacy charity, to prevent people falling victim to bogus callers and rogue traders.
Chief Inspector Rob Hay said: “Bogus offences are predominately committed against people in their own home who are perceived as vulnerable.
“Those organised individuals or groups offer all types of services to unsuspecting members of the public, and methodically target their victims and adapt their criminal method to exploit people’s vulnerabilities.
“Anyone can be influenced by the lies these criminals create and the impact of this crime can be devastating.
“We aim to raise awareness of this despicable crime and give people the confidence to deal with individuals or groups who cold-call at their door.”
Police Scotland has launched the ‘Nominated Neighbour Scheme’, which gives support for not answering your door to cold-callers.
