Brave Bearsden woman jumps for charity
A BEARSDEN woman who completed a sponsored skydive to raise money for the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre has spoken of the inspiration she received from wounded servicemen.
Natalie MacMorran (37), who has lived in Bearsden her whole life, raised 2000 for the Rehabilitation Centre, which is based at Headley Court in Surrey, from her tandem parachute jump at Black Knights Parachute Centre in Lancaster.
Natalie, a podiatrist in the NHS and at her private MacMorran Practice she runs with her husband of nearly 15 years, was inspired to raise the funds after seeing wounded servicemen in a television documentary.
The mum of four said: "I first became aware of the great work the rehabilitation centre carries out late last autumn when my husband and I watched a documentary following the recovery of two servicemen severely injured in the line of duty.
"Both men lost both legs and an arm each, and I was truly inspired by their courage and determination on their journey of healing and rehabilitation. I still think of this programme regularly and would say it has changed my life.
"After reading an article where another serviceman had been visited by Camilla Parker-Bowles and I decided to do a sponsored parachute jump to raise funds for Headley Court."
Natalie took to the skies on December 5, 2009 and loved every minute of the experience.
She said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my day and I thought the jump was amazing; I cannot wait to do another one in the near future.
"I really enjoyed the fund raising. I hope that this contribution from my sponsored jump can help with their work and the rehabilitation of the armed forces personnel within their care at present and in the future.
"My life is generally kept very busy with family and work commitments and projects get put on the backburner sometimes. I have always wanted to do a skydive and just never got round to doing it and these soldiers really inspired me into taking action and getting into the sky.
"I would like to extend a big thanks to all my colleagues, friends, relatives, and staff at my children's school and nursery who all gave generously to my cause.
"Each person I spoke to thought it was for a great cause and thought our armed services do a great and underappreciated job."
