With just under one week left before their expedition to Thailand three musical boys from Bearsden are still fundraising for essential kit.

Lewis Donaldson, Iain Stuart and Ali Watson, along with their big-hearted friend Mark Cobain, have formed a new rock band, “Inquest”, which they will debut this Saturday (June 7) at 7.30pm in the beautiful surroundings of Bearsden Baptist Church Sanctuary hall.

As well as covers of songs by Muse and Queen, InQuest will perform some of their own music featuring Ali’s dad, Colin Watson on keyboard.

The boys have enlisted the support of other family members too. Lewis’ sister Milly will perform jazz and pop, Ali’s sister Penny, who was a finalist in this year’s Rotary Club of Britain and Ireland Young Musician of the Year competition, will be on the piano and Ali’s mum will even be in on the act, playing the piano too.

The diverse line-up of talented musicians will continue with National Mod medal-winner, Ruaidhri Irvine on clarsach, Glasgow Music Festival 2013 under-14 winner Ryan Corbett on accordion, violist Liam Johnson and singer-songwriter Lucy McCrory. A host of other local musicians including father and daughter busking duo will perform on bagpipes, violin, drums, cello, classical guitar, clarinet and double-bass.

This musical evening is just one of the boys fundraising efforts. They have packed bags at supermarkets, done paper rounds, held a dinner party, ladies night and coffee mornings, held car boot sales, abseiled down the Titan crane, cycled to Edinburgh, and a long-distance run.

The organisers, World Challenge, emphasise the value of young people working together in their community to achieve their goals as well as the value of the contribution they will make to the Thai orphanage where they will spend some of their time working.

Despite recent events Thailand is still considered to be a safe destination but World Challenge is keeping a close eye on the situation and keeping abreast of the latest Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice.

Tickets for the evening are available from Julia 07976 854703 or Ola 07535961120 or on the door on the night. Adults - £8, students - £5, children - £4 , family ticket - £20. Admission includes refreshments and home baking.
