Boclair House in Bearsden is to become a boutique hotel

ONE of Bearsden’s most magnificent buildings, Boclair House, is going to become a boutique hotel.

The impressive former East Dunbartonshire Council office building, at the bottom of Boclair hill, put up for sale last January for £1.5 million, has been bought by WPH Developments Limited/Westpoint Homes.

The magnificent red sandstone Tudor Gothic mansion, which is Category B listed, has been a local landmark and an aesthetic treasure since it was built by the Buchanan sisters of Bellfield in 1890.

David Mawhinney, development manager of WPH Developments Limited/Westpoint Homes, said: “The established landscaped garden ground is an important and advantageous feature for the hotel, as we hope that the hotel will attract considerable interest as a wedding venue.”

Development works are expected to start towards the end of summer and there will be some affordable housing as well. The hotel will provide an estimated 34 full time and 20 part time jobs.
