TALENTED pupils from Bearsden Primary have won a place in the final of a prestigious competition at the Scottish Parliament, which will test their knowledge of Europe.
They answered some tough questions at the qualifying heat for the event in Bishopbriggs Academy earlier this month.
Questions included, Which Sea lies between Greece and Turkey? Who invented the World Wide Web? and which country is represented by the highest number of MEPs in the European Parliament?
The winning team members, Euan McAllister, Adam Robertson, Rachel Rodgers and Russell Walker, will now compete in the final in the Scottish Parliament’s debating chamber on May 13.
Seventeen schools took part in the East Dunbartonshire heats. Mosshead Primary finished a close second.
The Euroquiz is organised by the Scottish European Educational Trust.
Dugald Craig, a trustee of the Scottish European Educational Trust (SEET), was quiz master for the first four rounds and East Dunbartonshire Council’s convener of education, Councillor Eric Gotts, took over for the final round.
Councillor Gotts said: “I would like to congratulate all the pupils who took part. This year’s questions were quite tough, but true to form our young people did really well.
“Commiserations to Mosshead Primary School, who finished a close second.
“I wish Bearsden Primary all the very best in May and I am sure that they will do very well.”
The Scottish European Educational Trust was set up in 1993 to provide information about Europe and the European Union to schools, colleges and universities.
The Euroquiz is the organisation’s flagship programme.
