Bearsden park plagued by poo problems

CHILDREN’S health is being put at risk because dog waste bins have not been emptied for more than a week over the festive period.
Wet and windy weather has spread rubbish left in the open area in Westerton into the surrounding area near the library.
Dog walker Damien Henderson who lives nearby blasted: “There are piles of dog poo bags on the bin and it is becoming a health hazard.
“Kids play round here and it has been running off into the surrounding area.
“The situation is getting bad and the smell is horrendous.”
Mr Henderson also walks his nine-year-old dog Lexy at Cairnhill and the problem is just as bad up there.
He complained to the council, but so far nothing has been done, adding: “I contacted East Dunbartonshire Council about the bins last Thursday in the first day council workers returned from their holidays but nothing was done.
“The bins have yet to be emptied and are absolutely disgusting and unhygienic.
“When I spoke to the council’s cleaning department last week they seemed to appreciate this and promised the bins would be emptied that afternoon but nothing was done.
“It’s bad enough when your domestic bin isn’t emptied but this is way worse.”
He said he understands that everyone deserves a holiday but reckons the council should have provided cover, adding: “I’m shocked that they don’t think this is a situation that requires an urgent response.”
David Devine, Head of Roads, said: “Over the holiday, we had a street cleaning team on duty with shopping areas and town centres given priority. I am aware that there were some problems which we are looking into. I’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
