Bearsden’s mini-Festival is just over a week away which will coincide with the Queen’s Baton arriving in East Dunbartonshire.

Organised by New Kilpatrick Parish Church and local traders, the baton will arrives at Bearsden Cross at about 8.20am on Saturday July 19, which will kick-off a whole mini-festival for the whole family.

Church minister Roddy Hamilton said: “We’ll have a flag hunt round local shops where you can collect every flag of the Commonwealth in specially designed passports for the event.”

The Commonwealth theme continues with a food festival where people can taste a selection of cuisine from around the world in Bearsden’s Primary school playground.

Local traders will be offering a variety of taste experiences and market stalls will be teaming with a truly international mix of foods.

Rev Hamilton added: “There is also the opportunity to take part in our own specially designed Gallus Games Pentathlon. You can, among other things fling jeelie pieces, try out some really crazy golf, run in the hame-’il-dae-me races.”

This is the first of three mini-festivals this year organised by the church,

The next one runs alongside Castlehill Baptist’s Gala day on August 23, followed by the Celtic Festival between October 3-5 with dance, music, instruments, workshops and more music.
