Bearsden councillor says more cash is needed for roads

THE news that £5.325m is to be spend on improving roads in East Dunbartonshire was greeted with mixed emotions this week by a councillor who has campaigned on the issue for years.

Independent councillor Duncan Cumming welcomed the money but reckoned more money needed to be spent on the roads in Bearsden North.

The representative for the area said: “The roads in Bearsden North are some of the worst in the country and the council really needs to get on top of the problem.

“When it comes to roads, the peoples’ priority is the eradication of the appalling road surfaces. I am still very disappointed that the council has still not invested in new technology like the Rhinopatcher to help deal with potholes.”

Councillor Cumming said this piece of equipment was used by many Local Authorities in Scotland, and it had “proven itself to do the job efficiently and properly.”

He added: “Last year, the council spent a staggering £643,551 of local peoples’ money on filling potholes, and many of the repairs failed within a very short period of time.”
