Bearsden campaigner urges you to make a splash for charity

A POSITIVE attitude has given Parkinson's disease suffer Bryn Williams a new lease of life and has helped him raise thousands for charity since his diagnosis three years ago.

The 39-year-old father of two from Bearsden, pictured right, was a self confessed couch potato, but decided he had to stay as fit as possible for the sake of his wife Vicky, and their two young girls after receiving the devastating news.

The Herald has reported on how the lawyer has campaigned tirelessly — raising more than 155,000 in the last two-and-a-half years to promote awareness and for research into finding a cure.

Now Bryn, who set up the website wobblywilliams.com for people effected by Parkinson's is backing the British Gas Great Scottish Swim — a charity one mile outdoor swim.

The event at Strathclyde Loch, North Lanarkshire on Saturday August 21 will attract more than 2,000 participant.

Bryn said: "I will be attending the swim to support the Wobbly Williams swimmers. This is a fantastic event and the WobblyWilliams.com team is delighted to support it.

"Swimming is one of the many exercises which can help people living with Parkinson's keep their bodies flexible and fight the progression of the disease."

Mark Foster, five times Olympian and Strictly Come Dancing Star, met Bryn recently to mark the launch of the event.

Bryn said: "Meeting Mark was a real buzz. It was a great pity he pulled a muscle in his back picking up my two little girls and had to hobble off to a taxi."

And to suprise Bryn last Saturday Vicky nominated him for all the fundraising work he has undertaken on BBC1's Tonight's the Night programme hosted by John Barrowman.

He was picked out from the audience and a special song was performed by John, much to Bryn's embarrassment.
