Be safe this fireworks night

THE Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) are warning people in Milngavie and Bearsden to be careful this Bonfire Night with some top tip on having a safe night.

Planning ahead for November 5 is key to ensuring everyone stays safe in and around firework displays.

The safest place to enjoy fireworks is at a properly-organised displays, but RoSPA recognises that not everyone can attend such events.

The minimum age for buying garden fireworks is 18 to stop them falling into the hands of youngsters who have suffered terrible injuries as a result of misusing them.

Top tips from the firework code are: Keep fireworks in a closed box and use them one at a time, Read and follow the instructions on each firework using a torch if necessary, Light the firework at arm’s length with a taper and stand well back, Keep naked flames, including cigarettes, away from fireworks, Never return to a firework once it has been lit, Don’t put fireworks in pockets and never throw them, Direct any rocket fireworks well away from spectators, Never use paraffin or petrol on a bonfire, Make sure that the fire is out and surroundings are made safe before leaving.
