Angry parents stunned into action

PARENTS of children at Craigdhu Primary School in Milngavie have hastily formed an action group to safeguard the school’s future.

The were forced to act quickly last week to defend the school after it was unexpectedly brought into the firing line by Milngavie Community Council in their recent response on the schools consultation, which was sent to IBP Strategy and Research, the independent company carrying out the consultation for East Dunbartonshire Council.

The community council put forward a proposal that Craigdhu Primary School should be merged with nearby Clober Primary.

Until now the school has not been involved in the review of the primary school estate.

Furious that their school has been dragged into the proposals, parents have already gathered 392 signatures for an online petition which they will present to the council - and their goal is to get 500 names.

Liz Marshall, from the action group, said: “We are delighted with the number of signatures we’ve had in just two weeks – it shows the strength of feeling.

“Craigdhu is a fantastic school which meets the requirements of Curriculum For Excellence and we therefore feel it is of the utmost importance that its future is safeguarded.

“The building is well maintained with no outstanding repairs and it already has the features needed for modern learning that a new build would have.

“It has direct access to outdoor learning areas from all classrooms, including the living classroom, a superb large newly refurbished main hall for whole school performances and assemblies and brand new toilet facilities.

“It’s in a secure and safe environment adjacent to farmland and the Craigdhu ‘wedge’, which is an excellent community outdoor facility.”
