50 years ago: Provost Ogilvie Lennox retired after six years at the helm of the Burgh of Bearsden.

To mark the occasion Mr Ogilvie and his wife were guests of honour at a presentation dinner held in the Municipal Buildings at Boclair.

Present at the dinner were Dr Hugh Gillies, convener of Dunbarton County Council and Mrs Gillies; the town clerk Mrs L. Cuthbert and the town chamberlain Mr W. Grier.

A toast was proposed by Baillie George Paterson who said there had been many individuals who had given long periods of service to the community.

However, Mr Ogilvie Lennox had been the only citizen to preside over the burgh for two periods in the crucial six years following its foundation.
