Concerns were expressed that overcrowding at Bearsden Academy and St Joseph’s Primary School in Milngavie were caused by inept and inadequate implementation of education policy by the county council.

Labour group leader and treasurer James Macgowan, of Milngavie Town Council, said Bearsden Academy had been overcrowded before it was completed and St Joseph’s was over subscribed only three years after completion.

And he warned that everything must be done to stop the same fate happening to the new Douglas Academy when it was built.

On the subject of free school travel from Milngavie to Bearsden, Mr Macgowan reiterated his desire to see it maintained, but not through means testing.
