Loads to do at Mugdock Country Park in the October school holiday

MUGDOCK Country Park has some great events coming up soon - suitable for all ages.

Children are invited to go an adventure at the park ‘Bush ‘n Bash’, for ages five to nine, on Monday, October 15 from 10am to 11.30am and 12.30pm to 2pm.

They need to wear wellies because it will be muddy in the woodlands and moorlands. The children will be exploring through thick vegetation, deer tracking and playing games. For more infomation go to www.wildbynature.eu. Cost £4. Booking is essential, call 0141 956 6100.

Notes of Fun Presents ‘A Halloween Musical Adventure’ on Monday, October 15 from 10am to 10.45am (for pre-school children).

Hop on to the magical island full of tricks and treats to experience the fun of music at Hallowe’en. With the help of their very own treasure map, children will play some unusual percussion instruments as they visit Pirates’ Cove and dance to Teddybear Zumbaaa (they can take their own teddy if they like). There will be storytelling, sing-a-longs and fun with colourful musical instruments. Cost £4. Booking is essential, call 0141 956 6100.

The children’s film Dragon Hunters is on at the park on Monday, October 15 at 2.30pm.

Not bookable, you can join the cinema club, for free, on the day. Doors open 15 minutes prior to start time.

Children can get their face painted at the Twinkle Trust Animal Aid marquee at the front of the visitor centre on Monday, October 15 and Thursday, October 18 from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Cost £2.50 per face. For more information go to www.twinkletrust.org

There will be a beginners mountain biking skills workshop for children aged eight years and over on Tuesday, October 16 from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Lasting approximately three hours, including rest stops and teaching points for training. Cost £8. Please call for important information before booking, 0141 956 6100.

Families are invited to go along to Mugdock Plantaria to help plany bulbs on Tuesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 18 from 10am to 12pm. Cost £2 per pot, suitable for all ages. No need to book.

There wil be an improvers mountain biking skills workshop for children aged 12 and over on Tuesday, October 16 from 1pm to 4pm.

Including sections of single track and short descents, this is an exciting ride around Mugdock exploring both wooded areas and open landscapes. Training on aspects such as body positioning, gears and effective breaking. Lasting approximately three hours, including rest stops and teaching points for training. Cost £8. The children’s film Valiant (cert u) is showing at the park on Tuesday, October 16 at 2.30pm. Not bookable, you can join the cinema club, for free, on the day. Doors open 15 minutes prior to start time.

You could join in family craft sessions on Wednesday, October 17 from 10am to 12.30pm. No artistic skills required. Design your own pencil case, purse or bag with the help of Lucy Jackson from Mugdock Makkers. Adult supervision required. Cost £2 to £4.50. Just turn up and join in.

Children aged nine to 12 can join in a Can you See Me? event on Wednesday, October 17 from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. They will be exploring, adventuring, tracking and surviving in the outdoors. Cost £17. Booking is essential, call 0141 956 6100.

Mountaineer and author Peter Wright is going to talk at 7.45pm on Wednesday, October 17 about his recently published book ‘Ribbons of Wildness’ which reveals an impressive amount of research into Scotland’s majestic natural environment with its wide range of bio-diversity. A must for Munro Baggers or those content just to marvel at Scotland’s breath-taking scenery. Cost £5. Booking is essential, call 0141 956 6100.
