‘Living wage’ for council workers agreed

AN agreement to adopt a formal policy on a living wage for all council employees is to be implemented.

The living wage is a term used to describe the minimum hourly wage needed to provide an acceptable standard of living, currently £7.20 per hour.

East Dunbartonshire Council (EDC) does not have any employees earning less than this and will ensure future employees will be afforded the same commitment.

Council Leader, Rhondda Geekie said: “By adopting this formal policy, we are ensuring that everyone who works for East Dunbartonshire Council now and in the future, be they part time, full time, permanent or temporary can be assured that they will be awarded the living wage.”
