LEAFLETS BINNED IN COUNCIL BLUNDER

A GREEN bin blunder has left the council red faced - and thousands of pounds out of pocket.

Huge amounts of calendars containing the wrong information were delivered to households throughout East Dunbartonshire last week.

The leaflets, which cost East Dunbartonshire Council thousands of pounds to produce and deliver, should have provided residents with dates for the uplift of their green garden waste bins this year.

However, the wrong dates were highlighted on them - with some weeks completely missed out.

A Bearsden resident, who asked not to be named, said: “There were three glaring errors on the calendar.

“I can’t understand why the leaflets weren’t proof read so that something like this could have been picked up.

“What will be the total cost to the taxpayer of reproducing these leaflets?

“I suspect it will be in the region of £10,000 - for reproducing them and delivering them twice.”

A total of 44,500 calendars were printed costing £1,728 and 20,264 calendars were sent to residents in Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Lennoxtown, Lenzie and Milngavie at a cost of £2,250 between Monday, February 13 and Thursday 16. Those who received the wrong ones are being asked to recycle them in their paper bins.
