POLICE have named a man who was found dead near Fintry on Sunday as they begin the hunt for his killer.
Leading the investigation into the murder of 34-year-old Stewart Barret, from Kirkintilloch, is Detective Chief Inspector Willie Cravens who said: “A post mortem examination carried out on Tuesday confirmed that Stewart died as a result of injuries sustained during a violent assault.
“We are appealing for anyone with information about Stewart’s final movements to come forward.
“The last confirmed sighting of him was at 10.30pm on Saturday, November 26 in at an address in Meiklehill Road, Kirkintilloch.
“We are working to establish his movements between the time he was last seen and the discovery of his body at 11am on Sunday morning.”
Stewart was found half a mile along a forestry track from the B818 at the north end of Carron Valley reservoir, near Fintry.
DCI Willie Cravens said: “We are keen to hear from anybody who may have seen him throughout Saturday either on his own or with other people. He was wearing blue tracksuit bottoms, white trainers and a dark coloured top.
“We are also extremely keen to hear from anybody who may have been in the area of the north end of Carron Valley Reservoir between 10.30pm on Saturday, November 26 and midday the following day.
“If you saw anyone or any vehicle in the area during this period I would urge you to come forward.”
