RAINBOWS, Brownies and Guides in Milngavie and Bearsden need more adults to come forward and help to run their meetings.
The area has a very active Guiding history and hundreds of girls join every year, but to give them the Guiding experience they deserve, more adult helpers are required.
Even if you can only spare one hour a week it can help a pack to grow and give more girls the opportunity to become a Rainbow, Brownie or Guide.
Chris Castell, a local leader, said: “I became a leader over seven years ago when my daughter’s unit needed more adults to keep it open. At first I helped out with other mums on a rota, but I had so much fun I decided to make it permanent.
“Since joining guiding I have made new friends and have had many opportunities to do things that I wouldn’t normally have done. Although my daughter has since moved on to Guides, I’ve stayed with the Brownies and I really enjoy being involved.
“Although many leaders join through being parents of Rainbows, Brownies and Guides we are always looking for younger adults to help.
“No experience is required, just a good sense of fun and adventure. A wide range of training is available through Guiding and many of the skills gained can be transferred to employment opportunities.
“New volunteers bring new skills and abilities to a Unit which can broaden the opportunities available to the girls.”
Girlguiding UK has an ongoing national campaign to seek out more adult members.
The organisation has over 600,000 members nationwide and a further 50,000 girls waiting on lists to join local groups. As well as needing adult leaders to work directly with the girls and young women, Girlguiding Dunbartonshire also needs people to volunteer in a number of other support roles, including public relations, accountancy and general support roles. Most packs meet once a week during the school term, Rainbows and Brownies usually for an hour to an hour and half. Guide meetings usually last for about two hours.
