Harry Potter star and BAFTA winner Miriam Margolyes is to feature as the voice of the Mirror in a Bishopbriggs theatre school’s pantomime this week.
Backstage Theatre School in Bishopbriggs is staging ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ at Kilmardinny Arts Centre in Bearsden at 7.30pm on Thursday 17, Friday 18 and
Saturday 19 December.
The actress who played Professor Sprout in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows (part II) was also Madame Morrible in both the London & Broadway productions of WICKED and is regarded as one of the most accomplished female voices in Britain.
She said: “I am very pleased to be playing the part of the Mirror. The script is great fun and I am sure the students at Backstage, and the audience, will thoroughly enjoy the show.”
Miriam, who was awarded an OBE, recorded her part in a London studio after being approached by Backstage Creative Director Gill Bingham who has written and directed ‘Snow White’.
She said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Miriam agreed to play the part, particularly as she is so busy and in such demand. The students are all huge fans of Harry Potter and WICKED and they are really looking forward to ‘sharing the stage’ with such a big star.”
Last year, ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ presenter Chris Tarrant made a cameo appearance in Backstage’s production of ‘Aladdin’, taking time-out from his holiday in the Caribbean.
Gill Bingham said: “We have also had good luck messages from Michael Ball, Marti Pellow and David Tennant in the past who all recognise the benefits that drama, singing and movement can bring young people. We pride ourselves at Backstage in providing a positive and friendly atmosphere where students can learn their craft, build their confidence, make new friends and above all have a lot of fun.”
Backstage is a theatre and music company specialising in teaching young people aged 7 to 17, staging two productions a year with professional lighting, sound and make-up.
Classes are held at the Backstage studios in Bishopbriggs on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm.
