BUDDING young thespians are being invited to take part in musical theatre workshops in Bearsden this Easter.
The classes are being run by Milngavie girl, Kerri Watt (22), who toured with the UK musical hit Jekyll and Hyde starring Marti Pellow last year - which came to Glasgow’s King’s Theatre.
Kerri, a former pupil of The High School of Glasgow, left home when she was 16 to study performing in Los Angeles at South Orange County School of the Arts.
She appeared in many shows during her time there, playing the lead role of Yum Yum in The Hot Mikado, Mrs Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie and Laura James in the southern American play Look Homeward Angel.
Kerri also won various awards including ‘best supporting actress’ and ‘best solo performance’ in the high school version of the Tonys, then she went on to study musical theatre for three years in London at Laine Theatre Arts.
Her first professional job in theatre was while she was still at college, understudying the title role of Cinderella in London alongside Police Academy actor Steve Guttenberg.
Now concentrating on a solo music career, Kerri is running the workshops with Aaron Ashley Parker (23) who she met at Laine Theatre Arts where they both studied.
Kerri, who writes her own songs, plays the piano and guitar as well as teaching singing, said: “The children will take classes in dance, singing and acting that will result in a showcase at the end of the week, so that everyone will get their chance to perform.
“The workshop is perfect for any kids who love to entertain, want to learn skills from working entertainment industry professionals, or people who want to gain confidence and have a fun and exciting week of meeting new people.”
The classes are for children aged seven to 16 and run from April 10 to 13 in New Kilpatrick Old Halls, Bearsden Cross.
