The Yes campaign for Bearden & Milngavie has welcomed support from the rock band Franz Ferdinand who played at Scotland’s largest music festival recently - T In The Park.
The lead singer of the Glasgow based band, Alex Kapranos, who was a pupil at Bearsden Academy, gave his endorsement of a Yes vote while he was performing on stage.
The band made their views clear during their set in the King Tut’s tent as they had a YES banner draped behind them on their tour kit.
Welcoming the news, group spokesperson Ross Greer, another former Bearsden Academy pupil, said: “It’s fantastic to see yet another world class Scottish band endorsing a Yes vote, especially one with the Bearsden connections of Franz Ferdinand.
“Scotland is one of the world’s wealthiest nations, richer per head of population than the UK, France or Japan but we can only use that wealth with the full powers of a normal independent country.
“Our top cultural figures recognize this and they are overwhelmingly supporting the Yes vote, whether it’s Franz Ferdinand, Biffy Clyro, Elaine C Smith or Brian Cox.”
The referendum is going to be held on September 18 and the question being asked will be: “Should Scotland be an independent country?” and voters will choose yes or no.
