There are fears for the future of the out-of-hours GP service currently based at Drumchapel Hospital, which caters for Bearsden and Milngavie residents, after plans were announced to close three wards there.
Staff at Drumchapel Hospital have received letters telling them a 90-day consultation is underway to consider the closure of wards which offer care to elderly patients.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) wants to transfer all older people’s rehabilitation services for the west of Glasgow – a total of 56 beds – to Gartnavel Hospital.
The older people’s mental health service will stay at the site.
If the proposals are accepted NHSGGC could save £1.4million.
