Milngavie and Bearsden Historical Society is thrilled to have the well known television presenter and author Vanessa Collingridge as their speaker this Monday, December 1.
Vanessa, who has lived in Scotland since 1989, is studying for a PhD in historical cartography at the University of Glasgow, while working as a broadcaster for BBC Radio Scotland’s Buried Treasure and BBC Radio 4’s Making History.
She will be giving a talk on the fascinating subject of a newly discovered map of China known as the Selden map.
This has been rediscovered in the Bodleian library and turns Chinese history and maritime links with the rest of the world on its head.
Joyce Avery, secretary of the Society, said: “Vanessa is a most vibrant speaker so this meeting’s not to be missed.
“We’re really very lucky to have her coming and we are all very much looking forward to her talk.”
The meeting, as usual, will be in Kilmardinny House, Beardsden at 7.30 pm.
Visitors are also welcome.
