Karen Buckley’s family described her killer as “truly evil” after he pled guilty to murdering her and then trying to dissolve her body with caustic soda.
The court heard on Tuesday, August 11 how depraved Alexander Pacteau (21) battered the student in his car and throttled her within just 18 minutes of meeting her outside the Sanctuary nightclub in the west end of Glasgow.
Pacteau had driven Karen to nearby Kelvin Way where he attacked her, hitting her 12 or 13 times with a spanner.
Her body was found four days later in a barrel at High Craigton farm, near Milngavie and Bearsden on the A809 road to Drymen.
Speaking outside the High Court in Glasgow Miss Buckley’s father, John, said his family will always be “haunted” by the thought of Karen fighting for her life during her last minutes.
He said: “He is truly evil and we hope that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
“Our hearts are broken at the thought of Karen’s final moments on this world. The thought of her being alone, frightened and struggling for her life haunts us. The panic and fear she experienced as she fought for her very survival but she had no chance against that coward.”
