A CHARITY campaign to help garden birds survive the winter is set to launch this weekend.
RSPB Scotland will hold its annual Feed the Birds day on Saturday - and people in Milngavie and Bearsden are being urged to do their bit.
The charity hopes the day will remind residents of the importance of feeding garden wildlife during the winter season.
RSPB Scotland’s Jenny Tweedie said: “Birds appreciate our help all year round, but by stepping up the feeding now, you can offer a precious lifeline during the harsher months of winter.
“It’s getting colder already and, with the days getting shorter as well, it’s a great time to start feeding your garden birds. There are lots of different types of food that you can put out from shop-bought seeds and nuts to kitchen leftovers.
“Water is important too and leaving any berries on your garden plants instead of cutting things back can also help.”
Staff at RSPB Scotland’s Shop for Nature store at Loch Lomond Shores, Balloch will be giving advice on feeding birds and making pine cone feeders from 10am-5pm tomorrow (Saturday) as part of the day.
