SHELTER Scotland says that East Dunbartonshire must do more to help people who are homeless in the area.

East Dunbartonshire Council achieved a nine per cent reduction in the number of homelessness applications made to the local authority in the last year, but the group said more work needs to be done to ensure the council can deliver Scotland’s 2012 homelessness reforms.

The council is assessing 86 per cent of homeless applications as priority need – with six months to go until the legislation comes in to force with a commitment to assess 100 per cent of homeless applications as priority need.
